Papa Jo drumming

Meet PapaJo

Sure, he's known worldwide for his mastering, but did you know Joe Palmaccio is a drum enthusiast?
PapaJo has been consumed with drums since early childhood. His musical roots began while drumming with bands around his sweet hometown Chicago.  From garage bands to playing standards, alt rock to alt country, he searched for the groove in whatever music surrounded him.  Upon moving to NYC, Joe drummed with Brooklyn-based traditional country group The Small Potatoes.
    Currently he plays with rockers
The Eric Stuart Band and cowboy-jazz instrumental trio Loco Vibrato.
When he's not laying down the groove, he creates custom kits and snares.
"Building drums is where my two passions of listening and creating sound collide.  As a mastering engineer who also builds instruments, I am obsessed with how and why things sound as they do."

Below is a custom snare drum built at the PapaJo drumshop for Blooddrunk Shenanigans drummer Pepper Denny.

Louis Newman and Joe
Joe Palmaccio (right) was delighted to also master for Louis the 2Steel Girls fabulous single
"Train Wreck".

Dougie Crosbie
Our very first "Easy Does It "  client was Dougie Crosbie. He sent us the tracks for his EP all the way from Scotland.  How did he like our NEW $99 per track service?  "It's a great service you're doing for unsigned artists.  I'm still amazed by the mastering. It gives me a great sounding product to try and get some air play and more shows. I'm sure when people hear it, it will speak for itself.
I hope more people look Joe up."  Thanks Dougie, we do too!
Check out Dougie in Glasgow or download his EP now at most digital retailers.

Music Business Radio
Joe Palmaccio joined radio host David Hooper to talk about his 25+ years as a mastering engineer.  Joe and David discussed what mastering is (and isn't), how Joe got his start in the field, advances in recording technology, what musicians need to know about mastering, analog vs. digital, and the magic behind injecting new life into old audio.  Joe also brought in "before and after" examples of how mastering can make a difference.  This hour long show was originally broadcast on WRLT in Nashville. You may link to the interview podcast here.
